INFRASTRUCTURE

Cyberinfrastructure for Geodynamic Studies Related to the Vrancea Seismogenic Zone

The cyberinfrastructure we plan to implement at the Institute of Geodynamics of the Romanian Academy of Science consists of an HPCC/HPVC/GeoWall system able to run/visualize 3D high-resolution numerical models with the main goal to answer key questions concerning the origin of the Vrancea seismogenic zone. Moreover, we plan to widely share our modeling results with the scientific community through an interactive web portal.

It is worth mentioning that this will be a pioneered infrastructure in Romania, since there is no such facility available for geodynamics study in the country. Also, this infrastructure will provide a technological boost needed at the Institute of Geodynamics of the Romania Academy of Sciences, placing this institution in the worldwide top research centers. Therefore we consider that financial assistance requested is crucial for the implementation of this project.

The cyberinfrastructure we plan to implement and develop will promote interdisciplinary collaborations between scientists working on numerical simulations of geodynamic processes and students and it will foster enhanced student access to and experience with, modern state-of-the-art computing infrastructure in the geosciences..

This infrastructure was possible thanks to the following companies:
