Cyberinfrastructure for Geodynamic Studies Related to the Vrancea Seismogenic Zone

 


 

ACTIVITIES

The main activities for this project will take place in 3 main stages.

STAGE II

     In the second project stage (second year), a large set of models will be run on the HPCC and visualized on the HPVC and GeoWall systems. Several alternativeworking hypotheses will be tested (i.e. slab delamination, unstable triple junction). We will evaluate in a systematic approach the effect of input parameters (top velocity boundary conditions, viscosity structure, mantle rheology, mesh resolution, etc) on the modelling results. We will conduct critical review of modelling results using the best available observations (i.e. surface deformation, gravity measurements, mantle tomography, etc.).
      Field campaigns (relative gravity, space geodesy and high accuracy geometric levelling) to complement previously obtained geophysical and geodesy information will be also conducted during the second stage.
